About the Salient Achievements of the Department:   • The department (Biotechnology) produced Best Graduate of Assam University, Silchar (Highest Marks in Honors amongst B.Sc., BCA, B.Com and BA in all subjects) in 2009. • The department (Botany) produced Best Graduate of Assam University, Silchar (Highest Marks in Honors amongst B.Sc., BCA, B.Com and BA in all subjects) in 2010. • In 2010, the Department produced 1st class 1st in Biotechnology of Assam University. • In 2011, the Department produced 1st class 1st in Biotechnology of Assam University. • The Department has introduced pass programmes in Ecology & Environmental Science & Hons programme in Biotechnology & Certificate course in Bioinformatics which are being continued at present.

Other Activities (e.g., National/International Conferences, Symposia, Seminar, etc. organized during the last 10 years):   • In 2002, The Department published a proceedings of State Level Seminar under the title “Biodiversity of Assam & its Conservation.” • The Department organized two national workshops in 2011. • The Department organized seven Guest Lectures with International Experts; two experts from Japan in 2010, & five from Bangladesh in 2012 . • The Department organized some Socio economic survey in collaboration with local NGOs in 2009 & 2010. • The Department provides consultancy in Mushroom Cultivation & organizes exhibition, training programmes from time to time to develop entrepreneurship among local unemployed youths. • The Department organized workshop in Fruit Preservation & processing. • The Department also organizes workshop & training programmes under DBT sponsored Biotech Hub & Star College Programme.
